niix – a women’s fitness app that focuses on the importance of mums and women exercising as they approach 40 and beyond, is launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise £150,000 despite the coronavirus lockdown.

The niix app saw a 117% increase in sales of its app via iTunes for the second half of March, with the number of new subscribers for the whole of March 2020 up by 92% from February.

Nicki Philips, niix founder, commented, “With the boom in exercise from home in response to enforced self-isolation, now is the time to accelerate our planned crowdfunding round.”

“The Covid19 lockdown has shown that you don’t need expensive equipment or PTs to stay fit and healthy. Unlike other online fitness solutions popular now, I created niix from the very start to be used at home with no equipment needed, specifically to meet the fitness needs of busy mums and women approaching 40 and beyond. So, it’s no surprise, that we’re seeing such interest in the app during these unprecedented times.”

The app, set up by Philips (a 40+ mum of two), in 2018 to help women stay fit and healthy as their life stages change, has already been downloaded more 12,000 times with customers in more than 25 countries worldwide. With the advent of the coronavirus lockdown in March 2020, niix has seen accelerated interest:

  • Both downloads and registrations of the app have increased by more than 60% for the whole of March compared to February 2020’s full month figures
  • This trend looks set to continue, with downloads up 10% and registrations up 32% in just three weeks of April 2020, compared to the whole of April 2019
  • The number of new subscribers for March 2020 increased by 92% from February. April figures show no decline in growth rates.

“The 40+ fitness market is hugely underserved and we believe now is the time to change that. A key part of the niix experience, is the support of our 12k+ likeminded community of women, so embarking on a crowdfunding route to growth was a natural choice for us,” added Nicola Tomlinson, Head of Strategy & Development for niix.

“We truly believe that our future success depends on the support of this amazing community of women who understand the niix philosophy that, with the right technique, you can efficiently feel stronger and fitter than ever, no matter what your age.”

The funds raised will be used to grow the niix brand and recruit new subscribers through a range of marketing and development activities. The money will also be used to update and future proof the technical functionalities of the niix app and website, in support of the anticipated growth in users.

The crowdfunding campaign will go live on the Crowdcube platform in May but is now open for investors to register their interest here.
