Research shows that a soothing cup of tea can reduce the harmful effects of stress. With so many teas now on the market they are a great alternative to grabbing a can of the fizzy devil (coke) or having fruit juice etc.  Below are some of my favourites which not only taste great but are packed full of health benefits.

Green Tea

Research shows that green tea helps to burn fat and increase your metabolic rate. Being packed full of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which have been noted to lower cholesterol and blood pressure and may lower your risk of some types of cancer, it’s no wonder green tea is herald as a super tea. Green tea does contain caffeine so I tend to drink green or matcha tea (more potent version of green tea) as a morning boost.

Chamomile Tea

The dried flowers of chamomile have been used for centuries for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Drinking chamomile tea can increase antibacterial activity leading to a stronger immune system and help fight infection. Drinking chamomile tea soothes the nervous system and muscles promoting better sleep. It has been used as a solution for insomnia for centuries.  When my head is whirling I will always drink Chamomile to help me sleep.

Ginger Tea

Believed to relieve nausea, improve digestion and increase adsorption of food as well as improve blood circulation. Ginger has high levels of vitamin C and amino acids and is known to Help with weight loss, fight cancer, manage glucose levels, improve circulation and food digestion and aid the body’s ability to absorb nutrients. Ginger and lemon is a great pick me up if you are having a mid-afternoon slump.

Slice of lemon

According to research hot water and lemon can help kick start the digestion process for the day. Lemons have a strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers plus are a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Often I start my morning this way and really notice the difference in my attention and energy levels….so get squeezing!

Turmeric tea

My new favourite tea. Firstly, it tastes delicious! Secondly, Turmeric has been a talking point in the wellness arena for a while and again for good reason.  Like Green tea and according to research, turmeric is known to have more that 600 health benefits! It has anti-inflammatory properties that help in treating various health problems like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, acne and ulcerative colitis.

With so many options out there, go boil that kettle…….
